I have the honour to inform you that at a meeting of the

Executive Committee of the Fund for the Relief of Distress in

China held yesterday it was decided to place forthwith at the

disposal of His Majesty's Ambassador, for the purposes of the

Pund, as a first instalment, the sum of £5,000, this amount to

be disbursed as the organisation of which he has been good

enough to assume the Presidency considers most serviceable.

The amount in question is being remitted by the Hongkong

and hanghai Banking Corporation today and I am directed to

ask whether you will be so good as to inform the Ambassador of

this by cable.
